Good afternoon all. The windy forecast is confirmed by todays MWIS !!
So as there will now be six of us from York (howdy, Sam) lets all simply meet at the Fox Inn, Holgate, at 7.45. Mike will bring his car and follow mine.
Steve, with luck we should be able to get to the cattle grid at 842715 in 2 hours so can we aim for 9.45. I’ll ring you when we are en route.
I’ve clocked the minor roads from Blubberhouses to Thruscross Reservoir….. will bring us out just at the west side of the quarry, right ?ANDREW
AndrewSpectatorFurther hereon, having peered at the road map and checked the road closure, I see the official diversion is via Ilkley, Otley and Pool which will be a very tedious crawl. Maybe the smart money will be to approach our objective the back way via Grassington, Kilnsey and Halton Gill.
AAndrewSpectatorNow found a moment this afternoon to study the MWIS from 1.36pm today. Saturday looks a poor day in the Dales, and Lakes. Sunday is better in the Dales, looks like being pretty windy but “dry for several hours, particularly eastern Dales”.
So unless this changes, I suggest we stay with the idea of Penyghent on Sunday morning. I’ll aim to pick up Mike and Linda at 7.45, then Caroline and Marjan please be at Fox car park for 7.55. My suggestion is to drive to Stainforth then up the Halton Gill road to park by the cattle grid at 842715. Probably at 10.00 am & meet Steve. We can then go straight up PYG via Churn Milk Hole before 11.00 and before the weather deteriorates. There are obvious circuits back via Horton in Ribblesdale.
Must remember the A59 road over Blubberhouses is closed, though !!
Is that OK for everyone ?
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorVery good. Lets see how the forecast develops and then make some plans. First thoughts last night were for a 7.45 / 8.00 departure from York on Sunday.
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorI’ll put one in the car. With fresh snow I marine it will mostly be too soft for any techniques to be practiced
