    Hi All,

We are intending to go out Thursday night and do the night walk and navigation. The weather forecast is reasonable — cloudy, with a wind of 23mph from the SW. Temperature about 2 degrees, which will feel like -4 in the wind, 10% chance of a little shower. So very mountain-like. !
    See http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcxj5m5h0#?fcTime=1488412800

So wrap up warm, with flask, map and compass.

We have moved the venue to make travel a bit easier from Leeds and Harrogate. So the RV will be the “Sheep Wash” car park at SE 468992
This is 2.25 km north of the T-junction in Osmotherley, immediately north of Cod Beck Reservoir.

The map required is of course OL26, North York Moors West area, scale 1:25000.

We’ll aim to finish for 10pm, so home by 11-ish or 11.30 if we stand in need of “apres-nav.”

    See ya

Just watched Countryfile & it predicts a low over Scotland on Tuesday with cold weather. The LP shuffles off eastwards on Wednesday and then new systems arrive with winds southwesterly backing south then southeasterly by Friday with warmer air from the south. So the jury may be out just yet.
I have done my best to engender colder weather (through Sod’s Law) by changing from winter tyres to summer ones today (owing to a screw in the former). However the effect of this can not be guaranteed.

Hi all, here’s the update on this and in particular I’m asking if anyone (Cath /Jen /SteveM ??) would have any difficulty getting to the potential start (see “Where”)

    WHEN
We will try to do this on the first Thursday night now with reasonable weather (because deferring might leave us with a worse forecast). This means deciding on Tuesday evening whether to go or not. I am suggesting an RV at 6.30pm with a view to getting under way about 6.45, or at least by 7, finishing between 9.30 and 10.00 pm.

    WHAT
A wander round some moorland spaces for up to 3 hours and your mission (should you choose to accept it…..) could include detailed map reading, pacing and timing, and walking on compass bearings. Or just enjoying the night.
(Might I suggest it could save a little time on the night if you have checked your double pace count per 100 metres, and re-read stuff about how to follow a compass bearing)

    KIT
Usual hill gear, warm and waterproof, flask, snack, head torch, compass, whistle, map 1:25,000. Probably OL26 tho’ see below.

    WHERE
My first thought was that provisionally the area above Hutton-le-Hole would make a change from shooting up the A19, i.e. the moors either side of the Hutton to Rosedale Abbey road. Tenk would like to work out a detailed route with some copy maps so he might come up with alternatives.
Hutton le Hole is of course some 9.5 miles NW of Pickering, car park at GR 705901. Hence about 50 -55 minutes from central York.
However, the question is, how this would be for those working in Leeds or Harrogate…… Catherine / Jen / Steve M ??
Could you get to Hutton le Hole for 6.30, or should we fall back on the A19 Osmotherley area ??

Could everone get to (somewhere near to) Osmotherley for 6.30 ?

    Hi Linda,
    Trying to juggle everybody…….
I still have not heard from Loch or Penny so maybe if we pick you up from St Johns area, then call for Steve, that will make 5 in my car i.e. Dolly Andela, you me and Steve.
