I am leaving Heworth at 4.20 to pick up Steve in Acomb.
I could come round by the Knavesmire pub and pick you up there at 4.40
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorThe current forecast is quite good:
A few wintry showers in west, otherwise dry and bright with strong northwest winds. Freezing level at around 600m.
So to improve a bit on previous arrival times at Gable Summit, I’ve checked the distance from Honister Pass as 3.8km, and the height gain as 670 metres.
That might be 65 minutes for the distance (conservatively) and 67 for the contour lines, so a departure from Honister by 8.30 is indicated. As mentioned under Moonlight Traverse, many of us may be in the Lakes overnight anyway. Anyone coming up Sunday morning will need an early start to RV at Honister
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorLooks like Saturday night could be a runner. !!
The forecast is for high pressure moving in, and there will be a cold NW wind with occasional snow showers. The brief synopsis from Lakes Weatherline is at the end of this post.Steve G and I are considering getting started around 6pm which should see us in bed well before midnight and up again for Great Gable on Sunday morning. Details to be finalised. Obviously we will only have a half moon but if there is a light snow cover upstairs, and some moonlight, then as they say:
“You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometimes
you might find
You get what you need”ANDREW
Saturday 11 November
A mostly dry and bright day with only a few wintry showers, especially in west. Fresh to strong northwest winds. Freezing level drops down to 800m.Sunday 12 November
A few wintry showers in west, otherwise dry and bright with strong northwest winds. Freezing level at around 600m.AndrewSpectatorOwing to “Sod’s Law” (as so many of us have been involved in the First Aid course Sat + Sun) there may have been fair conditions over the weekend. However next week looks unstable with a series of fronts to pass through. There may be a weather window on Tuesday night, but possibly not firm enough to justify the commitment. An option being considered last Thursday is to walk next Saturday night, sleep, then go to the commemoration on Great Gable on Sunday morning.
I’ll be keeping eyes on the weather with this in mind
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorAs I shall have a post-operative hand I shall be unable to undertake any further Water Activities such as last time.
