A slight change of plan for Saturday 29th ! Both Nick and Errin, and Steve M and Becky have canine accomplices; but it turns out that under the Access Agreement man’s best friends are not allowed on the moor to Simon’s Seat. Doggonnit !!
John was inclined to bristle a bit at this restriction the other night; however to avoid splitting up (which would be barking mad !) it seems best to walk elsewhere, with dogged determination. Obviously only a minority of us are collared by this problem, so I hope Marjan and Linda, John & Penny and anyone else who comes to tag along won’t feel it is a case of the tail wagging the (er) dog.
Saved by a whisker :- Mr Murray has recommended that we park in a lay by below Stump Cross Caverns ,then go round Grimwith reservoir then through Trollers Ghyll and back over the moor.

Steve has nipped over to sniff out a rendezvous this morning. Still at 10.15 for a 10.30 start The layby is at Gr 085 635 ,ample room for several cars.
If coming along A59 ,after passing Menwith hill, look for Brown sign post to Stump Cross caverns 8 miles. Pass Stump Cross Caverns 150 metres on left is lay – by.
If coming from Pateley Bridge head for Grassington / Stump Cross Caverns etc.

You’ll no doubt have a warm coat if necessary – also Trollers Gill may have some water in it…… so we won’t stay bone dry.

So once you’ve chewed over these few details, we’ll all meet up on 29th

We can co-ordinate transport from York later next week.

So it was “Plan B” on Sunday 11th and the 8 of us attending Great Gable were impressed by the fact that another 2000 or so hillgoers were also willing to stand silent in the pouring rain.
An opportunity has opened up for me to take next weekend 17th/18th so Dolly and I are lined up for a trip to Scotland provided the weather continues to improve. Any more want to climb aboard ?

I’m posting to add to Penny’s paragraph about the Committee’s plan to have a rolling slideshow at the Christmas bash, aimed at reflecting the 70 years of York MC since 1948, and to invite contributions from everyone.

We have material available from 1988 to present, plus a small number of earlier photos.

As a benchmark, if we had 480 “slides” shown for 15 seconds each, that would run for 2 hours. Thus two cycles in the whole evening. But thats’ a lot of work to get together, so more likely it could be 360 pictures and 3 cycles. So for the 30 years from 1988, that would allow a MAXIMUM of 12 to 16 slides for each full year.

So if you have pictures of people or events which you think are of general interest, please get them to Matthew Diggle this month. It would be better if pictures could be captioned for the benefit of viewers. (as below).

Remembering, please, that we will try to balance the pictures across the years so not to swamp the show with an imbalance of shots from very recent years
    Thanks All

So as previously advertised, the last dance on my card – before my next hand operation – is the weekend of 10th – 11th November.
PLAN A. If the forecast is reasonable, we will head to the Highlands with the object of reducing Steve Green’s outstanding Munro commitments. Now with the exception of a “bike and camp” trip south from Deeside (in the spring/summer time) the outstandings are all towards the west coast. Good job we’re not looking at this coming weekend, then !!

PLAN B If the weather is really pear-shaped, we will once again head to Great Gable to summit before 10.50 and participate in the Remembrance at 11.00.
No doubt the event will be thronged this year as of course it will be the 100 years anniversary since the Armistice itself.

As usual it will be a question of watching the “Weather for the Week Ahead” from Sunday and deciding which way to jump on Wednesday (ish)
