Wow !!
I have arranged to meet Steve & Becky at the Cattle Grid at Dale Head 843 714 on the basis that parking in Horton is a bit limited. Doing it this way means that we get to summit after 40 mins then get down via Hull Pot to cafe in Horton then an hour in the afternoon back uphill to the cars. The RV is the place with the grass verge parking and the “honesty box”. Ring me if any probs (before 7.00 pm as we are going out tonight).
We have proposed a 10.00 am meeting time. That will need a 7.50 or so departure from York I think. Forecast is quite a cloudy day, just have to hope we might get a lucky break in the mist.
See you there !!
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorDrum-rolls and credits to all 16 who turned out for our walk around Grimwith Reservoir and Trollers Gill.
Chairmans Commendations for Exemplary Service are to be granted as follows:-
To John – for nudging me to get something arranged in the first place
Steve M – for supplying an alternative route when the original plan went to the dogs. (or rather, didn’t)
MWIS – for the supply of excellent weather
Penny – for turning out after a wee illness
Becky – for leading the route from memory and saving the rest of us faffing with those map thingummies
Tim (Outram) (I think it was) and all others who kept the sheep and the dog separated, so that the supply of mutton at Parceval Hall was not increased
Rhianna — for retrieving my special Christmas pattern sock from under the car
Richard — for nominating the Craven Arms at Appletreewick
The Landlord of the said Craven Arms — for telling the roomful of us the story of William Craven, who in the 16th century travelled to London & made his fortune (a tale much like Dick Whittingtons) & returned to build Burnsall School & Burnsall Bridge.
Loch – for driving me there and back which allowed me to indulge in an extra pint
To all those not otherwise mentioned for a very pleasant and convivial day out.And a Happy New Year to all our Readers

ANDREWAndrewSpectatorHello everyone (hic !)
I’ve just found a moment between getting back home and nipping out tonight for Berwick Kaler’s Last Stand at the Theatre Royal. The forecast for Saturday is quite windy and cloudy, with occasional glimpses of weak sunshine. So we will not be missing anything by not going up Simon’s Seat, and Steve Murrays alternative now seems a nicer option !!It will take about 1 hr 15 mins to reach the aforesaid layby from Heworth (1 hour from Poppleton) so if there are pick-up’s involved I’ll plan on a start at 8.50 to arrive 10.15 ish at the layby near Stump Cross. I have 3 seats available, or 4 at a push — although I am also happy to be a passenger if anyone else would like to drive.
