Forecast for Saturday is now out from MWIS. No wind, no rain, lots of sunshine.
There are three of us en route for the North-West I think
AAndrewSpectatorHi All,
Assuming that Mike’s dates are the same as Maria’s when he completes the Doodle Poll at http://doodle.com/7ada7bd8a9tnucu3 then we will have 7 for November weekends, but insufficient numbers for October. I understand that Paul Walkington is also able to join us in November, so that makes 8. Unfortunate for Paul McKenzie…….. sorry Paul…….. but the result is very clear in respect of preferred dates.
I have been in touch with the course provider, and yet again he is holding his price !! This course just gets cheaper and cheaper in real terms, what a bargain !!
So I have provisionally booked him for 15th and 16th November. The course will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm both days at Heslington.
So it is now time please for us each to get some money to Maria. As a reminder on how this works (and presuming the agreement of YMC Committee to underwrite it in the usual way) we now need to get £100 each to Maria (cheques to York Mountaineering Club, or transfers as Maria directs please). Once Maria has £700 in hand, I will definitely book the course. If there is only the minimum number of 7, the club will underwrite £200, as the total cost is £900. If there are 9 of us, it will cost £100 each.
However if we get 10, 11 or 12 on the course (and every previous course has eventually sold out at 12 places) then you will get a cash refund on the day.
In all previous cases, with all 12 places sold, the refund has been £25 so the course has cost £75 (£900 / 12) which really, is cheap as chips.Again as a reminder, there is no examination, but everyone completing the course gets an REC Level 2 Certificate which is valid for 3 years.
So get yer pennies on t’table for Maria
Cheers
ANDREW
AndrewSpectatorHi All,
We have a good response to the Doodle Poll now, and I expect that a friend of mine will fill it in over the coming weekend, to indicate availability in November. (He is definitely not around in October). So I’ve taken the next step and emailed the course provider to confirm his availability and price this year.
With apologies to Paul, it does look as though its got to be a November weekend, to satisfy the greatest number of people.
“Save the date” for 15th + 16th, folks
ANDREWAndrewSpectatorFantastic bargain ! We now have 7 expressions of interest, which is the bare minimum to make the course happen, PROVIDED we can find a weekend that everyone can commit to. I have set up a Doodle Poll at http://doodle.com/7ada7bd8a9tnucu3 to try to agree the best date for the maximum number of people.
Anyone else interested in this please complete the poll !!

I have known a sliver looking the size of a little finger from the roadside, turn out to be a football field of steep snow ground upon closer acquaintance. There was certainly plenty of stuff left up there last weekend !! I have heard you can outflank the snowfield on rocks to the west, but I’ve never done that personally
