We have just walked a great little treasure hunt from Scarborough Bridge round the City Centre and back (1 hr 45 mins). The route is based on an Orienteering map.
For anyone not familiar, an orienteering map shows buildings and spaces between them, but no road names or other writing. Each of the 15 objectives is identifeied as being within a small circle marked on the map at each place. It is often said, that a bit of orienteering will improve your map-reading skills in the mountains…… need to orient the map, concentrate on features and details etc.
So if you fancy an entertaining couple of hours, which will enable you to wander the almost empty city whilst working on map-reading, email me (see Members List) and I’ll email you the map and clues.

I’ve really enjoyed this treasure hunt, at an appropriate distance with some friends. Thank you for sharing it, Andrew! It’s opened my eyes to corners and details in York that I never knew were there. Plus the finish is near an ice cream van, so what’s not to like! 🙂
