Here’s just a heads up for a couple of spring and summer trips.
Sleeping out amongst the mountains for 2 or 3 nights in a tent or bothy involves an extra skill set beyond getting out of the car and up (and down) a nearby peak. Anyone interested in such things (whether experienced or not) might want to stay in touch concerning two plans for this year. As part of the rounding-up of Steve Green’s remaining Munros, we’ll have to get to Upper Glendessary in the Rough Bounds and Glen Ey in the Cairngorms.
The Gorms trip is a straightforward MTB ride up the Glen from Inverey, and an overnight camp at the ruins of Altanour Lodge, for the Munros of Carn Bhac and Beinn Iutharn Mor.
As to Rough Bounds if you buy OS 33, you’ll see there are very few roads on the whole map. Fold it in half, and the southern part contains 800 square kilometres of mountains and only about 26 km of single-track roads. From the road-head we’ll be seeking 3 summits, probably on a 3-day trip maybe camping maybe using the bothies of A’Chuil or Kinbreak.
Clearly both trips will be weather-dependent, so if interested, it’s a question of staying in touch to look for time slots. Steve and I are thinking of the early May Bank Hol weekend for the 3-day trip — for many years a time for going on such jaunts.
