Hello everyone,
The York MC Committee intends to re-focus a few things to help the Club to stay active, in order to adapt to likely restrictions and infection risks lasting until at least the spring of 2021, perhaps longer.
Sadly, of course, we can no longer meet in large groups. So there will be no big meals out, no gangs at local crags, etc etc. However there are things which we can do, and we can adapt within the rules and restrictions as they tighten or slacken from time to time. Subject to individual choices about risks,
WE CAN do outside activities in penny numbers. Hillwalking in a good breeze with social distancing for example.
WE CAN attend climbing walls in pairs subject to walls’ rules
perhaps most importantly WE CAN SHARE information and experience… via our website and social media. The original mission of the Club was to ENABLE people to get out and about. Today, it’s not about a lift in an ex-army lorry as it was in 1948, but it can be about information on how things are working. Details which might have seemed trivial last year are now of possible wide interest, so why not share where you just went, how was the parking, were there safe toilets, was it busy, what overnight accom. Was available ???
The Committee is going to
(1) plan a virtual Christmas party (details tba)
(2) run an AGM via Zoom on 19th November (Nick will advise further)
(3) Promote a series of “Topic Nights” via Zoom where skills or topics of interest will be presented / discussed.
(4) After a careful rule check, there will be a “partnering-up” post on the Forum to enable people to pair up for Harrogate wall and then stick to those pairs all the session.
(5) The “WordPress” App for mobiles didn’t work in 2018. But it DOES NOW, and can be easily used to plonk a couple of piccies on our website.
(6) WordPress itself has issued an upgrade, which finally sorted the issues on writing trip reports. This is now simple.
(7) Photos can be sent to Nathan for placing in Instagram and other Social Media. We can ALL HELP each other.
(a) If you’ve been somewhere, please share via the website what it was like, to help others decide.
(b) If you’d like to go somewhere, safely, one or two others might like to join you, so perhaps Post up.
(c) Trip Reports don’t need to be about heroic derring-do !!! Or triumphs of Eng. Lit.
But in these times especially, I reckon people would be very interested to know what is accessible, feasible, not too crowded etc etc. What is open ? Any camping tips ?
(d) Just piccies ?? Send to Nathan.I am aware of quite a few things going on. As I write, one of our Members is in the heart of the Cairngorms on a 6-day trip. So whilst this horror persists, we still have quite a lot to offer each other in terms of interest and exchange of experiences. Let’s re-focus for the winter and keep the show on the road in these new conditions.
Hoping everyone remains safe and well
