I refer of course to Brimham Rocks, and the question of where to go afterwards.
At Scugdale the pubs in Swainby are self-evident. From both Harrogate Wall and Almscliff the Cricketers’ is convenient and welcoming. Alas, there were formerly two pubs in Burnt Yates both now closed. The pub at Ripley appears to open erratically. Last Thursday a small few of us opted out of the drink and dope party just starting at Brimham, and had a beer at The Empress in Harrogate.
Other names mentioned have been Joiners Arms at Hampsthwaite (2 miles south of Burnt Yates)
“A family run pub where everyone is welcome.
We also offer cask ales, refreshing beers, wines and ciders.
To the rear of the pub we have a large private beer garden with plenty of seating…
and also the Guy Fawkes at Scotton (which soubds a bit foody).
I’ve not been to either, so I thought I’d just give the ball a kick and see if anyone has been to the Joiners, or has any other ideas. Obviously, as Shakespeare noted, “summer’s lease hath all too soon a date” and there are only a few more outdoor Thursday evenings left this year. But it might be worth chewing this bone a bit for future reference.
