    Hi all

Discussed this a bit on Whatsapp but I’m interested in doing some winter skills training pre-winter weekend #1: due to work etc. this is probably going to be cutting things pretty fine, trying to book something for either the weekend of the 2-3rd or 10-11th of Feb, driving up after work Friday or Friday afternoon if I can negotiate a half day and driving back Sunday eve.

I was originally looking at doing the 1-day fell assessor-run course in the Lakes, but having looked around online I’m leaning more towards going up to Aviemore instead, as a 2 day course is a bit more expensive but accomodation is cheaper… obviously fuel cost/travel time is going to be higher but I guess the conditions will be much better up north and the courses obviously cover a bit more.

There’s a bunch of providers with spaces on skills courses for both weekends for about £200, and it looks like accomodation works out to about £35-40 per person per night, for a B&B a bit outside Aviemore or for a shared dorm room in the Aviemore hostel. There is a private 4-bed available in the aviemore hostel for at least one of the weekends still as well.

Still looking at logistics etc. but would anyone be interested in joining in with a course? Recommendations on a course provider would be great too, unfortunately Glenmore Lodge are booked up already and Plas y Brenin are £££/don’t offer 2 day courses in Scotland.

    Hi,
This is a really great idea. However I need about three months in planning to get away and can’t make it.
However I’m going to keep it in mind for next year. Try to get it booked the same time as we book the winter weekend.
Now my kids are getting older I’m feeling more adventurous, and I’d be keen to do a course so I can do a bit more than walking.
    T
