Two weeks ago I drove back from Harrogate under clear skies and a huge bright moon. It reminded me of the idle talk last year of a moonlight traverse. (For us lesser mortals, this means a traverse of Blencathra rather than the epic winter night re-crossing of the Aonach Eagach by W H Murray).
A starting point is the dates of full moon.
The next full moon is 4th November. Obviously that clashes with the first aid course. However for those interested, I’d be willing to watch out for a fine night a few days either side of that weekend.
Keeping it simple (K.I.S.S.) an ascent from Scales via Mousthwaite Comb and Scales Fell, then down Blease Fell involves 10 km and 600 m climb.
Mr Naismith might do that in 3.5 hours (as a Rule) so say 4.5 hours allowing for a “lunch” stop and slower night walking. One might be finished by midnight and home a-bed just after 2 am.
Obviously this requires some fine weather !!

    Hi,

I really enjoy being out in the moonlight, is sadly harder to organize so quite rare. I hope we will find a fine night, and I’ll be in !

    Hello All

Love the sound of this, I’m in (legs permitting – but should be strong by then!).
I’ll keep a look out for updates.

See you all later at the pub.

I am very interested in this.
Obviously weather will influence the final date…
The November full moon looks tricky for me diary-wise. If the weather and wills align for November then November it will be!
However could I throw into the mix also the date for the December Full Moon (or ‘Cold Moon’ as it is known). This is Sunday 3 December and that month it happens also to be a Super Moon.

A fine night is most desirable — doesn’t have to be at the Full moon… could be a quite number of days either side. The checking of full moon dates just gives a starting point for some ideas.

For me, my hand operation is 27th November so I shall be hors de combat in December.
