A double measure for this forum post. It’s apparently the time for family festive fun and over indulgence, putting on weight and spending many hours sitting in front of the telly.
However, mid-week Christmas and New Year festivities and holidays completely blow any coherent climbing plans out of the water. Opening times at indoor venues for climbing are varied so I recommend checking before you travel should you be lucky enough to have the time to get out of the house.
Keep posting on WhatsApp should you fancy getting together anywhere for a climb or a walk. I may be free for a couple of hours on the 28th and will aim for a morning session at Harrogate if I can.
Another keen club member has suggested a social fell run may be a good idea to bring in the New Year. Wednesday January the 1st at Great Ayton. It’s a five mile route, open to all, entry on the day if you’re indecisive and organised by Esk Valley Fell Club. Here’s a link to the race info https://www.sientries.co.uk/event.php?event_id=14395 and here’s a map of the route https://eskvalleyfellclub.org/wp/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Map_Captain-Cooks.pdf . I’m going to be in the area on the day and although I’m far from my peak it’s very likely that I will be easily talked into joining in the race. If anyone else is interested please let us know. Rose has already signed up.
Other than that I would like to wish you all the very best for Christmas and the New Year. 2024 has been a tremendous year for the club and I would like to thank everyone for contributing to the many ventures, miles and metres achieved. I, personally have had a wonderful time this year and I’m looking forward to more, starting soon in 2025.
Cheers!
