A wee hobby horse of mine, which I have taken out for a canter at times over the last 10 years or so, is how silly it seems for the fine building of Derry Lodge to have been boarded up since about 1967 (yes, almost fifty years) and how hypocritical of Mar Lodge Estate to whinge on about over-use of Corrour bothy when an alpine-type hostel at Derry could very appropriately take the pressure off. The Summer 16 issue of Scottish Mountaineer now tells us, that a planning application has been made for a 20-bed Hostel, plus a public toilet too for nearby campers. Better (so very) late than never, no doubt. But money issues mean that the scheme won’t actually be carried out for another 5 years, so lets hope they include specially comfy chairs for 70 -year olds when I get there.
