As is customary, I will attempt to organise a straightforward “social” walk with a pub at the end, during the festive season. (Last year Mr Murray saved the day by producing a dog-friendly alternative to Simons Seat). Owing to family commitments, it’s a rare year when I’m available on Boxing Day. Therefore my walk this year will be on Sunday 29th December. Save the date and I’ll dream up something !!

For all who have reserved this date of Sunday 29th December:- I propose to have the Chairman’s Walk near Osmotherley on the western edge of the Moors. This would be accessible, for example, from Bridlington, Stillington, Harrogate and other outposts of the York MC archipelago.

Meet at the car park at the north end of Cod Beck Reservoir, 2.5 km north of Osmotherley GR 468992 in time to be booted and suited for a 10.00 am start.

We will head south, to circumvent Osmos by devious means and head up Oak Dale to Square Corner. After 1km along the road, a track goes north to Swainby Shooting House and swing back through the woodland to the cattle grid. The walk is roughly the same length as last year. It all seems to be OK for dogs, and the route can be shortened if the weather is poor.
Afterwards, I think the Black Horse at Swainby with its large car park may be the most convenient. (Osmos and the Queen Catherine being congested) but I’m open to advice…….

(NOTES (1) Road works north of Osmos expected to finish this week so road should be open (2) A start from Cod Beck offers better route options in poor weather than Square Corner, but I’m informed it can get busy, so arrival in good time is recommended.

Hi Andrew I am hoping to join n the walk. I’m just wondering if people organise car shares for this? I’m happy to drive if anyone wants a lift. Also can non member partners come? Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

    Hi Jenny,
Yes we should organise car shares as much as possible please ….. both to save the planet, and because the parking place may be busy. So as I know that Angela will be away and Steve Green can’t make it, I think there will be spaces in my car. Or I’ll happily passenger in yours.

AA route planner gives 1 hour from my house in Heworth. So I think leaving York by 08.40 would be prudent to allow time to get parked up and booted up.

Non-Member partners are certainly welcome !!

    I’ll see you at 100:00.
Can I suggest the pub at Ingleby Cross
    https://www.thebluebellinninglebycross.co.uk/
It’s a friendly place and allows dogs.
I won’t have our dogs there but the other pubs in Swainby aren’t as warm and friendly as this one.
    Richard
