Hi Everyone,
First of all, a reminder that our usual Christmas celebration will be on Thursday 20th from 7.30 at the Knavesmire. (preceded for some by a visit to Hull wall). The evening will also celebrate the Club’s 70th Anniversary, and there will be a rolling random slideshow going back through the nineties and eighties and right back to the Club’s beginnings. So let’s turn out in droves to gobble up the buffet and be captivated by scenes of people doing things long ago. There’s a chap who looks a bit like me, but with brown hair.
Secondly, it is customary to have a refreshing mass ramble after Christmas. This year after taking soundings from the Committee, I propose to do that on Saturday 29th December. I hope that the date will be convenient for a fair number of folk to have a convivial day.
Meet at Burnsall (5 miles south of Grassington in Wharfedale) at 10.15 am in time to get yer boots on for a 10.30 start. There is quite a bit of parking at Burnsall GR 031611. We will head off down the idyllic riverside and then up Simon’s Seat from Howgill. There are optional return routes depending on how time goes, including Trollers Gill for those with webbed feet (or yetis).
And should it be ‘orrible and claggy, we can change to a nice valley option.Looking forward to seeing y’all soon

Please count me in for christmas celebration and walk.
MarjanDecember 22, 2018 at 3:44 pm #11657AndrewSpectatorA slight change of plan for Saturday 29th ! Both Nick and Errin, and Steve M and Becky have canine accomplices; but it turns out that under the Access Agreement man’s best friends are not allowed on the moor to Simon’s Seat. Doggonnit !!
John was inclined to bristle a bit at this restriction the other night; however to avoid splitting up (which would be barking mad !) it seems best to walk elsewhere, with dogged determination. Obviously only a minority of us are collared by this problem, so I hope Marjan and Linda, John & Penny and anyone else who comes to tag along won’t feel it is a case of the tail wagging the (er) dog.
Saved by a whisker :- Mr Murray has recommended that we park in a lay by below Stump Cross Caverns ,then go round Grimwith reservoir then through Trollers Ghyll and back over the moor.Steve has nipped over to sniff out a rendezvous this morning. Still at 10.15 for a 10.30 start The layby is at Gr 085 635 ,ample room for several cars.
If coming along A59 ,after passing Menwith hill, look for Brown sign post to Stump Cross caverns 8 miles. Pass Stump Cross Caverns 150 metres on left is lay – by.
If coming from Pateley Bridge head for Grassington / Stump Cross Caverns etc. You’ll no doubt have a warm coat if necessary – also Trollers Gill may have some water in it…… so we won’t stay bone dry.
So once you’ve chewed over these few details, we’ll all meet up on 29th
We can co-ordinate transport from York later next week.
