From June 7-9, the club visited the Cerrig Pryfaid bunkhouse near Porthmadog in North Wales (thanks to Jen Brewin for the connection to the hut). John and Penny went up on Thursday night and were able to tick off Crib Goch and the Snowdon Horseshoe on Friday after an 0400 Alpine start to beat the weather and the crowds.
Much of the rest of the crew arrived on Friday evening, and Nick and Erin had an ASDA delivery of pizzas at the ready. Clearly a friendly table bouldering session was in order.
On Saturday morning, while some were waiting out the rain, Nick, Erin, Andrew, Nathan, Harry and Hettie went for a wee 9km trail run. Harry, who didn’t bring running shoes (or maybe he did) decided to do the entire run in a pair of Wellies and a button-down shirt.
With some clearing weather predicted, the team, now with Jen, John, Penny, Rhianna, Jenny, Nathan, Harry, Josh, Erin, Nick, Andrew and Hettie decide to go for the North Ridge of Tryfan. The weather cleared to perfection, and we practically had the scramble all to ourselves.
On Sunday, the weather was a fantastically sunny Welsh day, and we went to the Moelwyns to climb on Clogwyn yr Oen. We split up into teams and knocked off several of the classics such as Bent (S 4a), Chic (VDiff) and Slick (VDiff). Andrew and Nick also ticked off Pinky (VS 4c) before returning back to York.
Overall it was a great weekend, with some great organisation by the YMC team all around and some great new faces to welcome….of course it wouldn’t have been the same without our mascot Hettie!
